We didn’t have a Laundry room – we just had washer and dryer randomly placed in the Master Bathroom. There was no storage and no room to fold the laundry. Not to mention the fact that you barely could fit in front of the dryer when the doors were open. We had Laundry Traffic Jams HA.
I knew that there is no other spot in the house for the laundry room, so it had to remain inside the Master Bathroom (we do not have a basement) I had to smoothly incorporate the Laundry room into my perfect Master. What a task! There were few MUST HAVE things in the Laundry room for me:
- Space to fold the clothes on
- Area to air dry clothes
- Storage for detergent, cleaning supplies etc.
- Lots of bins for Laundry
After excessive research and few quotes, we decided to go with IKEA ALGOT shelving/storage system, as it was most functional for us and budget friendly, as it costs us only $711. What is awesome about IKEA, is not only their meatballs and cinnamon buns but their planning tools. You can design your own system HERE. Once you are done clicking, moving pieces and redoing your design over and over (and that will happen) you will get the list of all of the items you need.
Here it is – our laundry room. Could you tell that behind those doors there is a ton of laundry waiting to be done? No? Good, then my design works.
As you walk closer the view of the laundry reveals itself through the glass door. Voila!
As you can see, the laundry room is long but narrow 4′-6″ x 8′-0″ to be exact, therefore to save space we had to choose stack-able washer and dryer (more info at the end of the post) as well as 15″ deep storage shelving. Here is a closer look at the space.
Please note all that folding laundry space! And NO, the laundry room is not that sparkling clean all the time. The shelf and hangers are filled with clothes, and storage bins are overflowing with laundry – but that is why we have doors!
Those laundry bins are a blessing, let me tell you. I love the fact that we are able to pull out the bin and pull it back in. They also have covers that hide away the dirty laundry.
Here is a close up look at how those bins look up front. You are looking at four (4) large bins for dirty laundry: whites, blacks, colors and baby bin and two (2) smaller bins for small items storage (soap, toothbrush, toothpaste etc)
Now – about the hangers – look at those! Plenty or room to air dry clothes. Put it on the hanger or hang it flat
Going back to the washer and dryer. As I said before, those had to be stack-able. That was a MUST to work in out Laundry Room, due to the space constrains. To save even more space, and believe me every inch matted, we searched for a washer and dryer with a little required clearance from the back to the wall. The best space saving, great performing and simple in use washer and dryer we found was Electolux Washer and Electrolux Dryer. We love it and I highly recommend it. There is just right amount of buttons to work with and the clothes are super clean!
So there it is my friends – Minimal and Functional Laundry Room
